Antrim House is a particularly grand landmark in central Wellington. This impressive Edwardian-style mansion was built in the late 19th century and is full of original period features, antique furniture, paintings and a number of important collections. Wellington's Antrim House, close to the Lambton Quay, is now home to the Historic Places Trust and features extensive grounds and gardens.

Developed in the early part of the 1990s, Civic Square lies in the heart of central Wellington and is a modern pedestrianised square, resembling typical Italian piazzas in style. Providing a quiet sanctuary away from Wellington's busy traffic, Civic Square has long been a major landmark against which many distances and locations are measured against. Attractions in Wellington's Civic Square include a thriving street café culture, seating areas, lawns and views of the harbour area. Civic Square borders Cuba Street and the Lambton Quay shopping area, and attracts large crowds at lunchtimes and also hosts a number of Wellington's most popular outdoor events.

Located in southern Wellington, Government House is one of the city's most impressive landmarks and is home to New Zealand's Queen's representative. Recently renovated and restored, Wellington's Government House stands proudly in southern Wellington and features an imposing facade and an equally grand interior, full of antiques, paintings and heritage features. Government Houses opens its doors to the general public at least once every year and this is usually well publicised.

Home of world-famous writer Katherine Mansfield, who was born in this grand townhouse in 1888 as Katherine Beauchamp, Wellington's Katherine Mansfield House can be found in the city's Thorndon district. The Hutt River is one of the area's most important natural landmarks and can be found just outside of Wellington, in the Hutt Valley area. Containing many scenic picnic spots and walking trails, the Hutt River meanders through much of the Hutt Valley and finally ends up in Wellington harbour.

The Old Government Buildings are one of the world's largest wooden buildings and date back to 1876. One of Wellington's most striking and important historic landmarks, the Old Government Buildings are located off Lambton Quay and feature block corners, slab wooden planking, Italian-style architecture and a lavishly decorated interior.

Premier House is situated in the Thorndon district of Wellington, on Tinakori Road, and is the official residence of the Prime Minister. Dating back to the mid-19th century, Wellington's Premier House landmark building was used for a number of different purposes between 1935 to 1990, until being thoroughly renovated and returned to its former use as the home of New Zealand's Prime Minister. The Premier House is not generally open to the public, although seasonal events are occasionally hosted at this grand building.
